Trenchless sewer repair in Seattle
A failing sewer line under a Seattle home can be rebuilt from the inside, or replaced through two small pits, usually in a day. Here is how pipe lining and pipe bursting work, when each is the right call, and what to expect from a camera inspection before anyone quotes a repair.
Sewer Pipe Lining (CIPP)
A resin-saturated liner cured in place forms a new, jointless pipe inside the old one.

Pipe Bursting
A bursting head splits the old pipe while pulling new HDPE pipe in behind it, through two small pits.

Two ways to fix a sewer line in Seattle without a trench
Cured-in-place pipe lining pulls or inverts a resin-saturated liner into the cleaned host pipe and cures it into a new, jointless pipe inside the old one. It works from an existing cleanout, takes about a day, and is the answer for cracked, root-intruded or corroded lines that still hold their shape.
Pipe bursting pulls a bursting head through the old pipe from a pit at each end, splitting it outward while new HDPE pipe follows behind. It is the answer for collapsed, bellied or undersized lines that cannot be lined.
Which one a Seattle line needs is decided by a camera inspection, not by a sales pitch. A contractor who quotes a method before running the camera is guessing with your money.

What fails under King & Pierce Counties, WA homes
Older Pacific Northwest neighborhoods were built with concrete and clay side sewers, sometimes with sections of Orangeburg (tar-impregnated fiber) pipe from the 1950s and 60s that has since deformed. Cast iron runs under the house; the side sewer to the street is often long and deep on hillside lots.
Wet ground for much of the year, big root systems from firs, cedars, and maples, and hillside soils that creep downslope all work on sewer joints. Groundwater makes open trenches slow and messy, and many side sewers run under sidewalks and streets that the city requires be restored to standard.
